about

Losing Game, is something of a collaborative effort. I enlisted the help of National Flower front man Michael Sheridan to play bass, Kyleen King (Swansea, National Flower) for strings, and my long-time musical partner Amanda Breese (Amanda Breese Band, The Beautiful Trainwrecks) to play guitar.

"Losing Game" was written even before my first album was recorded but it never seemed to fit in any grouping. It just was always its own little story, the time was just never right. In the end, I’m glad I held onto it because it really blossomed into something more in the hands of Kyleen, Amanda and Michael. I have this vivid momory of sitting down togther in my apartemt living room with no real plan and I just laid this song at their feet and Kyleen had come with a vision for the strings and the vocal harmonies and Amanda jumped right in with her and everything fell into place around that. It couldn't have been easier and everytime I hear this song now I think of that day of wonderful collaboration and feel grateful.

This song was written from my first broken heart. It was the first time I sat down and just wrote a song straight from this raw place. It was very cathartic at the time. And it was somehow very healing to finally see this song come to life, even though the heartache that inspired it was long gone by then.

My friend Malissa snapped the cover photo when I visited her while healing from my second real heartbreak. Also just a very real moment in time captured that fell into place perfectly. All of it felt a bit like kismet.

lyrics

Its come to this
afraid to make a sound
afraid to turn around
and find you’re gone

I have nothing
nothing I can say
you can walk away
but I can’t move

all those pretty lies that I believed
oh I let you take so much from me
I wasted so much time
and I will forget you
you’ll slowly fade away
but I will remember
love's a loosing game

you're cold as ice
and soft as snow
like letting go
comes easily

you look at me
like someone I don’t know
nothing left to show
for what could be

all those pretty lies that I believed
oh I let you take so much from me
I wasted so much time
and I will forget you
you’ll slowly fade away
but I will remember
love's a loosing game

about

Jenna Ellefson Portland, Oregon

Jenna grew up in lush Oregon, beside waterfalls, amid tall trees and foxgloves. One flowery spring, on a whim, she bought a little banjo...and suddenly all the poems she had been scribbling, and all the melodies she had been humming, and all the beautiful places she had seen spilled out over its little plucky strings and finally...she had songs to sing. ... more
